Eagles Face Union Co. Friday

The Eagles jumped to an 18-16 advantage by the end of the first quarter, but Jackson County surged to a 10-point advantage by the half, 34-24.

The Panthers maintained control in the second half, moving out to a 53-39 lead by the end of the third quarter and putting the game away in the fourth quarter, 65-46.

Brandon Garrett led the Eagles with 21 points.

“The bottom line is they played well and we did not, and you have to give them a lot of credit and go back to work if you are us,” said coach Brian Turner. “Anytime you play a team and have 27 turnovers, 21 missed lay-ups, and get out rebounded on the offensive end two-to-one you should get beat, and that is what happened. We had some early foul trouble that hurt us, but the bottom line is they came in here and out-played us in every aspect of the game.”

On Saturday, the Eagles traveled to Oconee County for a close game that came down to the closing moments.

With six seconds left on the clock, the Warriors made a free throw that put them up 43-42. A late shot by the Eagles that would have given them the win missed.

Brandon Garrett scored 17, while Cody Gibbs had 10.

“It was a game that I feel really helped us grow up a little bit,” Turner said. “We still have a lot of things to correct but Saturday was a step in the right direction.”

The Eagles were scheduled to face Riverside Military Academy on Tuesday. Results were unavailable at press time.
