Lady Eagles Open Tourney With Loss

The East Jackson Lady Eagles got its season started Saturday with a loss in the Wing Slingers Tip-Off Tournament at EJCHS.

It was not a good start, as the Lady Eagles were hammered 62-35 by the Lady Knights of Pace Academy.

East Jackson found itself trailing 10-8 at the end of the first quarter. Pace Academy would continue to lead, but the Lady Eagles stayed within shouting distance with a 22-19 score at the half.

In the third quarter, the Lady Knights added 21 points to their total while holding East Jackson to only six to lead 43-25. Pace would add 19 in the fourth quarter while the Lady Eagles added 10.

Shelby Johnson scored 12 points to lead the team in scoring, and also had four steals on the night. Callie Moore and Caroline Hicks scored eight apiece.

"We started off the game ready to go and played amazing defense,” said coach Amy Larimer. “We also were executing on the offensive end, doing what we needed to do to compete. We gave out of gas and I take all the credit for that. I need to get them in better shape, and that will be a main focus from this point on.

“Hopefully the girls saw what they are capable of doing based on their performance at the beginning of the game. We can no doubt be successful this season."

The Lady Eagles were slated to continue tournament play on Tuesday against West Hall. Results were unavailable at press time.
