Madison County’s athletic region, 8-AAAA, could change by at least one member, based on recent classification announcements from the Georgia High School Association.
Monroe Area, with an enrollment of 1,347, would drop to Class AAA for 2010 through 2012.
The other 10 region teams are slated to return to Class AAAA.
Rockdale County is 8-AAAA’s largest school with 1,816 students. Conversely, Madison County, with 1,425 students, is the smallest school in Region 8-AAAA and second smallest in Class AAAA, two students larger than Tucker (1,423).
These designations aren’t yet final.
Schools officials wishing to appeal their school’s enrollment count may do so by Nov. 24.
The GHSA reclassification committee will meet December 2 to place schools in regions. The reclassification committee will also meet on Dec. 16 to hear appeals from any schools seeking lateral transfers from the region to which it was assigned.
Madison County has played in Region 8-AAAA since 2002.
