GaWaNi Ponyboy, one of the most sought-after horse behaviorists in the world, will be visiting Across the Way Stables in Winder on September 27 and 28 for a two-day riding clinic.

World renowned horse trainer to hold clinic in Winder
Jacquelin Twiss, owner of Across the Way Stables, said she has been working for over a year to get the famed teacher to hold a clinic at her stables.
“I met him in 1999,” Twiss said. “I saw him in a clinic and just fell in love with his technique. I’ve always wanted him [to teach]. Now, I have my own place. I have my own land. I have all the facilities and I got him.”
Ponyboy is well-known for his clinics, books and, more-recently, his DVD series “The Simple Truth about Horses.”
With over 20 years of horse behavior and human functioning experience, Ponyboy has become known as an expert in horse and human relationships.
Ponyboy will be presenting his “Horses Teaching People” clinic when he visits Winder in September. In the clinic, Ponyboy teaches participants how to train their own horses rather than training the horses for them.
After years of seeing his horse training work undone by inexperienced or unprofessional riders, Ponyboy created the clinic to train people instead of their mounts. Riders and their horses go through a series of exercises designed to help the rider earn the trust and respect of their horse.
“It’s a mounted riding course,” Twiss said. “It’s limited to 18 horses and their riders. He works with them on a one-on-one basis. He shows you how to train your horse so that when you take the horse home, you know what you’re doing.”
The cost is $600 for the two day course. The Saturday class is $350 and the Sunday session is $275. Horse owners may also audit the course for $25.
