Wildcats prepare for first-round battle

After breaking down game tape of several games from the 2009 season of Starr’s Mill, Davis sees a formidable opponent for the opening round, one which is a step above the normal No. 4 seed.

“They ended up fourth on some tiebreakers,” the Wildcat coach said. “They are a good team. They compete in the region with Sandy Creek who’s been in the top five all year.”

Offensively, the Panthers have been using the shotgun formation in recent games using zone read plays and an option attack. Davis noted this week’s foe “can throw it too.”

Defensively, Starr’s Mill will line up in a 3-5 look.

“We will try get a little better at what we do and try to hold on for another week,” Davis said.

For the first time in school history, the Apalachee High School football team will get to host a state playoff contest. The three previous seasons the Wildcats have been on the road.

“This is something we’ve been working for,” Davis said. “It will be different, however, I think we can get used to it.”

AHS players are ready for the program’s fourth venture into Week 11 in as many seasons.

“I think we’re ready,” quarterback Mike Norman said. “We are hoping for a deep run. Maybe we can bring it all home. We have to work even harder now, but I know all the members of this team are willing to do that.”

“I’m glad we have the chance to play at home,” lineman Cole Shook said. “That’s a big accomplishment for us and one we are really looking forward to.”

Kickoff Friday night is set for 7:30 p.m.
