Leopards look to end season with home victory

Friday night marks the end of the 2009 football season for the Banks County Leopards, following a bitter loss to Oglethorpe in last week’s homecoming game.

A fourth quarter turnaround by the Patriots netted Oglethorpe the 28-12 win over the Leopards.

This week, Banks County will honor the seniors as the Leopards face Union County to close out the season at home.

Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.

Banks will look to end the season on a positive note as the 2-7 Leopards plan to continue a four-year winning streak over the Union County Panthers.

Union County enters the game with a 5-4 record after falling to Riverside last week. If tradition holds, the game will be a tough fight for both sides as Union County looks to stop the Leopard’s win streak.

The last Union County victory came in 2004 when the Panthers won 33-13 over the Leopards. From 2005 until last season, Banks has handed down defeat upon defeat to Union County, going 13-11, 47-20, 40-34 and 34-13 in the past four seasons.

The Leopards could use the win to close out with a high note a season that has seen Banks County challenged with player injuries and a stiff lineup of Class AA opponents.
