Several local charities and community agencies will be the big winners at the Gresham Motorsports Park Grand Opening free community festival this Saturday, November 7.
Multiple events at the totally refurbished Gresham Motorsports Park facility will raise funds, food and toys for several local groups that day, according to GMP General Manager Dan Elliott.
“This will be a good day to show off the newly renovated Gresham Motorsports Park to the community and benefit all these local charities and agencies in the process,” stated Elliott. “The opportunity to work with the local people is something we’ve been driven to do since we started this project. We’re hoping this will be the first of many events we are going to work together on.”
The GMP Grand Opening event will be held in two segments. From 9 a.m.-1 p.m., area residents are invited to the free admission festival that gets underway with a Jackson County Parks and Recreation Department 3K Fun Run/Walk at 10 a.m. The Park and Rec Department will also hold a Punt, Pass and Kick Competition beginning at 11 a.m. and the Jackson County Cheerleading Championship Cheer Off at 11:45 a.m.
Funopolis Family Fun Center will bring its Holiday Food and Fun Drive to the GMP Grand Opening event. The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will stage a blood drive while BJC Medical Center will provide free medical screening.
Meanwhile, the Humane Society of Jackson County will hold a Pet Adoption. To see a list of available pets for adoption, visit www.hsjc.com/adopt_animals.html.
Live music by Scarlet Stitch, vintage racecars and other displays featuring local county vendors and businesses will also be highlighted.
The second portion of the Gresham Motorsports Park Grand Opening event will be an INEX/600 Racing Series test. The test will mark the first-ever appearance of the Legends, Bandoleros and Thunder Cars on the GMP quarter and half-mile tracks. Fans will not be permitted in the infield garage area during the test, but are invited to view the test free-of-charge from the all-new GMP grandstand.
