Bulldoggs host Clarke Central for Senior Night

“They are finding ways to win,” WBHS coach Ben Corley said. “They play very good defense, which is a staple of this region. They are very multiple in ways they attack. It takes a lot of work to prepare for them. Their quarterback is as good as anyone in the region.”

While containing Clarke Central quarterback Martay Maddox will be a priority, defensive alignments will also be vital for the Bulldoggs this week.

“They have 100 different formations so you have so many things to be ready for,” Corley said. “You have to make sure you are lined up correctly on defense. If we do that we will have a good opportunity to be successful. It will all start with our linemen on defense. That’s where we have to have success.”

Re-establishing a running game will be key for the WBHS offense as they welcome Clarke Central for Senior Night.

“We have to find a way to move the ball on the ground,” Corley said. “Teams are geared up now for our passing game. We won’t go away from throwing it, but we have to be more consistent running the football. We had some success earlier this season but we have struggled some recently.”

The Bulldogg coach said he would like for his team to get a little more “nasty” when it comes to running the football.

With two games left on the 2009 schedule, Corley wants the team to build momentum for the future. That could start with an upset win this week.

“We want to find a way to fnish on a positive note,” the WBHS coach said. “Our seniors have invested a lot of time in our program. We want to make sure we finish in a way they can be proud of. We have made up a lot of ground this season. We want to maintain that confidence. We want to be in the playoff chase and are disappointed we didn’t reach that level. However, we still have something to prove. We plan on coming out and playing hard.”

A positive end to the season would help springboard the players into the offseason program, Corley said earlier this week.
