AHS looks to stay perfect against Madison County

The Red Raiders are fighting for their postseason lives and need a win this week.

“It is not going to be easy this week,” Davis said. “Madison County will be as athletic offensively as anyone we’ve seen. They are able to do so many things.”

The AHS coach said Madison County will do everything from use two tight end sets to “spread it out and throw it around.”

Davis also wants his team to have a solid performance from start to finish. The Wildcats had to hold on for a 24-23 win last Friday against Heritage and only after the Patriots misfired on an extra-poin attempt with under two minutes to play would the game be decided.

“We have secured home field advantage for the playoffs so that pressure is off,” Davis said. “However, we need to get some momentum going again. We want to get past all the distractions and hype. When it comes down to it, we are going to have to be ready to play football this Friday night.”

Veteran Madison County coach Randall Owens is preparing his team for a tough battle this Friday. The MCHS coach is concerned about Apalachee’s running attack.

“They’re loaded,” Owens said. “They’ve got some great running backs. While Loganville’s Storm Johnson may be the most sought-after running back in the region by colleges, Apalachee’s ball carriers are more complete high school football players. I’ll take them any day. It doesn’t matter which one has the ball. They can all take it to the house.”

The Wildcats’ Wing-T offense is also a concern for the Red Raider coach.

“Inside, outside, misdirection or pass, there’s about four things that go off each series,” Owens said. “We will try to control the line of scrimmage and stop the explosion play.”

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. this Friday in Danielsville.
