Raider runners finish third at MainStreet meet

The Raiders scored 70 points, finishing ahead of Jefferson (98), Jackson County (140) and Commerce (162).
East Jackson (21) won the event, while Banks County (62) was second.

The Madison County girls didn’t have enough runners to earn a team score.

The boys’ and girls’ teams were to run Wednesday in the Athens Area Championships (results weren’t available at press time). The region meet is Oct. 31.

Brakhage finished ninth in the MainStreet meet with a 19:17 while Owensby ran a 19:28 to place 10th.

Two other Madison County runners also broke the 20-minute mark. Codey Brakhage finished 11th with a 19:35 and Scott Barnes was 16th with a 19:56.

Mauro Ortiz rounded out the scoring with a 32nd place finish, running a 20:59.

Others participating were Chris Dove (35th, 21:27) and Chaves Smith (41st, 21:55).

On the girls’ side, Elise Coberly finished 21st with a 26:27. Mendi Cromer followed with a 27th place finish (28:56) and Haley Costello was 39th with a 32:28.
