Wildcats seek first gridiron region title Friday

“This Friday won’t have nearly the amount of media or fan hype that the game with Loganville did, but this game is the biggest in the history of our school,” Davis said. “If we win, we win region. We have never hosted a playoff game so we can kill two birds with one stone with a win this week. That’s what makes it the biggest game ever.”

In the past, the Wildcats have competed in the postseason and even defeated teams ranked in the Top 10, however, with so much on the line this Friday, Davis said he believes a win would be the biggest in history of AHS football.

“It will be a big night for our program and school,” he said. “We are playing a team in Heritage whose record is not very good, but they have beaten two very good, playoff-caliber teams. Defensively, we will have our work cut out for us. They are athletic and have big play potential. We will have to be ready to play.”

Heritage enters this week’s contest at 2-5. The Patriots’ first win of the season came against Rockdale County in a 14-10 victory.

This past Friday, Heritage shocked Madison County with a last-minute touchdown for a 21-20 win.

Three of the Patriots’ losses have been by seven points or less.

“I can’t imagine us needing any motitvation for this week,” Davis said. “This would be the first time we’ve clinched something this early. In the past we’ve had to win in week nine and week 10 to just get in. We feel blessed and fortunate to be in this position this week.”
