Cross-country teams ready for region on Sat.

Last week, the Leopard runners from the high school and middle school competed in the annual MainStreet Meet at East Jackson.

Ivan Diaz took the top honor individually finishing the course in 18:04 and leading the Banks County High School boy’s team to a second place finish with 62 points.

I. Diaz outpaced East Jackson’s Kevin Kesler at 18:05 and Josh Kesler at 18:20 each taking second and third place respectively.

Also running a finish inside the top ten, the Leopard’s Jorge Diaz finished the race in sixth place separated by 31 seconds from his brother in first place.

In the team totals, East Jackson took first with 21 points followed by Banks County (62) and Madison County (70). Jefferson High School (98) placed fourth with Jackson County (140) and Commerce (162) rounding out the competition.

In the varsity girls’ race, Banks County finished fourth with 114 points behind East Jackson (31) in first place, Jefferson (47) and Jackson County (60). Madison County and Commerce did not have enough runners to qualify for points in the team race.
