The Lady Panthers of Jackson County saw their season come to a close last week at the hands of St. Pius X in the first round of GHSA state playoff action, as the Lady Golden Lions bested Jackson County in two out of three games.
Last Tuesday, the Lady Panthers made their first trip to Atlanta to face St. Pius X.
Jackson County held a 2-0 lead in the first game, and ran it up eventually to a 3-0 advantage before St. Pius scored three runs in the seventh inning to tie the game.
Under International Tie Breaker Rules, the Lady Golden Lions were able to score again, taking the win 4-3.
One highlight in the game for Jackson County was a solo home run off the bat of Madison Whitmire.
“Several defensive errors and lack of adjustments on offense gave St. Pius the win,” said coach Lisa Robinson.
The Lady Panthers came out swinging in the second game, and did not allow St. Pius to score a single run the entire game. The Lady Panthers won 10-0 in five innings.
At the plate, Jackson County adjusted and chipped away steadily. Madison Whitmire contributed two home runs, including a two-run homer and a grand slam. Jessika Laird had a triple, Haley Shinall had a double and Victoria Fontana had a double. Also getting key hits were Andrea Ledford, Macey Latty, Jessika Laird and Brooke Griggs.
The Lady Panthers traveled back to St. Pius X Friday to see who would advance to the second round of state playoff action.
Unfortunately, St. Pius dominated the game, keeping Jackson County from scoring throughout and taking away an 8-0 victory, ending the Lady Panthers’ season.
