WBHS to battle tough Rockdale foe on road

In preparing for Rockdale County, it’s the same song, different verse for Winder-Barrow High School football coach Ben Corley.

“Rockdale County is almost a repeat of every week in this region,” Corley said. “They have a lot of speed, can score on you and are just scary. They look as good as anyone we will play in the nature of athletes they have.”

Noting the Bulldogs are “well coached on defense,” Corley said his team will have to stay out of negative situations on offense.

“We will have to take advantage of what we have and make positive plays,” the WBHS coach said.

The Rockdale County Bulldogs are no stanger to close games in 2009. Rockdale is 3-3 overall with none of its losses being by more than seven points. The team blanked Cedar Shoals 14-0 last Friday to remain in playoff contention.

“They’ve had a little Dr. Jekyll personality,” Corley said.

The game with Cedar Shoals was scoreless until the final two minutes when Rockdale Countybroke through with two touchdowns.

“Rockdale was able to make a couple of big plays down the stretch,” Corley said. “That was a big win for them.”

WBHS is hoping some of its record-setting offensive numbers from last week’s win against Monroe Area will continue this Friday. Quarterback Christian Davila set another school record for passing yards.
