Banks Co. to compete in MainStreet Meet Oct. 13

East Jackson Comprehensive High School will host the seventh annual MainStreet Meet, sponsored by MainStreet Newspapers, on Tuesday, Oct. 13.

Teams from East Jackson, Jackson County, Jefferson, Banks County, Madison County and Commerce will take part, with the boys’ race scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. and the girls’ race to follow.

Also competing will be runners from the team’s middle school teams. The middle school races begin at 4:30 p.m.

Runners will compete on a 3.1-mile course that starts and ends in Eagles Stadium.

Banks County’s boys finished second during last year’s run and in the 2007 meet. The Leopards’ girls finsihed firt in 2006. Banks has yet to have an individual winner at the meet.

The East Jackson boys won in 2007 and 2008, while Jackson County’s boys won in 2004 and 2005, the only boys’ teams to win back-to-back.

Jefferson’s girls have won the event three times, first in 2003 and then back-to-back in 2007 and 2008.

The meet started in 2003 as a way to crown a local area champion.
