Cross-country puts up perfect score

It’s no secret that Banks County offers one of the most difficult cross country courses in the area.

Visiting schools’ competitors as well as the Leopard runners comment on the challenging run that winds through the woods behind the high school, making it very difficult for runners to achieve a perfect score.

However, the Leopards’ boys team did just that last Thursday as Banks hosted Stephens County and Habersham County.

Scoring the perfect 15 points, Banks County dominated the field as Stephens County’s boys placed second with 59 points and Habersham took third with 89 points.

The girls also ran for victory to take first place with 27 points over Stephens County with 30 points.

According to coach Kelly McDuffie, the runner’s times reflect the difficulty of the course.

“The guys are really coming along,” said McDuffie. “There is a definite battle for positions playing out. We are a pack running team and you never know who is going to show out on the day.”

Coming up for the Leopard runners is a home meet next Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 4:30 p.m.
