During the past few weeks, Murdock has coached nearly 140 players in three separate softball camps. Her goal for the camps is simple.
“My goal is for each kid to learn something new every day, to get lots of repetition, to get lots of feedback and have fun,” she said.
Now in her fourth year of coaching the camps, Murdock said the response to the camps has been great.
“It’s been awesome,” she said. “We’ve had kids from all over who have come.”
This year, players from schools such as West Hall, Collins Hill, North Gwinnett, Fannin County and others have traveled to Hoschton to learn from the coaching staff responsible for leading the Mill Creek Lady Hawks to three consecutive region 7-AAAAA championships.
“I’ve had really good instructors,” Murdock said. “Obviously you’re only as good as your instructors. My assistant coaches on staff are just phenomenal and we’ve brought in a couple of players from the University of Georgia that are helping out with the older kids’ camp.”
Though modest about her own contributions, Murdock is clearly pleased with how the camps have progressed this year.
“It’s been tremendous. It couldn’t be better,” she said.
This week’s camp is the final softball camp of the summer. On August 1, Murdock and her staff will begin holding tryouts for the Mill Creek softball team. The first game of the 2008 season is scheduled for mid-August.
