Lady Doggs record wins at weekend tourney

Offensively, Smith, Marissa Merrill and Ashley Waits were all 2-for-3 while Nicole Turner added one hit.

The Lady Doggs fell to Morgan County later that day 6-0. Merrill was one of the few bright spots offensively for WBHS going 2-for-3.

Coach LeAnn Mitchell went against her former team Saturday as the Lady Doggs defeated Social Circle High School 9-5.

Waits and Mackenzie Palette were both 3-for-4 at the plate while Shelby Reed and Merrill added two hits each. Sophomore Kari Kiley earned the win.

A 7-2 loss to Stephens County followed. WBHS scored in the first and third but could not push any additional runs across.

Palette had two hits to lead the team while Waits and Merrill both finished with one.

In game three Saturday the Lady Doggs fell to Union Grove 5-0.

“Our bats went asleep again,” Mitchell said. “We played pretty well on defense, we just couldn’t get the bats going. We had runners in scoring position several times.”
