0-2 Leopards ready for a win over Dawson

The start of the 2009 football season has been rocky for the Banks County Leopards who are 0-2 after last week’s loss to Riverside.

The Leopards had a 12-0 lead after the first quarter last Friday night, but Riverside came back to defeat Banks County 23-12. Big Blue will have to shake it off as they prepare to face Dawson County this Friday.

The Leopards are in the same position now, as they were last season before the Dawson County game. During the 2008 campaign, Banks picked up its first win over Dawson 48-27.

This year the Leopards hope to continue a three year winning streak over Dawson County’s Tigers as they head to Dawsonville Friday night.

The Tigers are 0-2 as well in the 2009 season after losing their opener to Lumpkin and falling last week to Jefferson.

In two games, Dawson has scored 16 points and allowed 69 while Banks has totaled 33 points and given up 57. The Leopards will have to work on maintaining their momentum as they have shown they can come out strong.

Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. Friday night in Dawsonville.

Riverside

The Leopards dominated the first quarter of last Friday’s game as they went up 12-0 over the Riverside Eagles. Unfortunately, for Banks County that would be the only scoring period for the Leopards as Riverside got their legs under them in the second half to take a 23-12 win.

Running backs Dylan Lackey and Jeremy Greenway scored the Leopards’ touchdowns. Overall, Lackey had 31 carries for 139 yards. Greenway caused a fumble and returned it for the touchdown to lead the defense graded out at 38 including two assists and five first hits.
