The Commerce 12-under all-star Tigers’ bid in the Dizzy Dean state baseball tournament ended last Wednesday night, as Jefferson bested Commerce 7-5.
After losing in their opening game to New Georgia Elite on July 5, the Tigers worked their way back through the losers’ bracket, defeating the Hobgood Heat in their first game on Sunday morning, then moving on to best Jackson County Sunday afternoon to reach the elite eight.
Commerce was originally slated to face Jefferson on Monday, but the game was eventually pushed back to Wednesday due to rain.
After two rain outs, tournament officials allowed the teams to play in Jefferson rather than make a third trip to Alpharetta with the possibility of another rain out.
Commerce had hoped being closer to home would spark some tournament magic, but Jefferson instead used their home field advantage to pull off the win.
The Commerce 12-Under All Stars lost to Jefferson last Wednesday, putting them out of the Dizzy Dean Georgia State Tournament.
