Corley, Bulldoggs have extra week of preparation

While other members of Region 8-AAAA are preparing for their 2009 debut this week, for the Winder-Barrow High School football team, it is just another week of preseason work.

Since the Bulldoggs have their open date this Friday, this is not game week. That will not occur until WBHS reaches Monday and they begin final preparations for their season and Region 8-AAAA opener against Madison County in a game to be played at W. Clair Harris Stadium.

Following last Thursday’s scrimmage against powerful Flowery Branch, Corley and his coaches have gone back to work.

“We saw some good and some things we need to work on,” the coach said. “We made some progress in a lot of areas. I felt good about how we played up front on both sides of the football. Our quarterback played well and Trent (Demeritte) played well in his first game. Overall, I thought all our receivers played well.”

Corley said he does want to see more consistency on defense although he noted turnovers gave Flowery Branch possession three times inside the WBHS 15-yard line.
