Jefferson High School head wrestling coach Doug Thurmond has been announced as an inductee into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, Georgia chapter.
Thurmond’s records speak for themselves. He has led the Jefferson Dragons to a multitude of state championships, both in traditional and dual competition, as well as seeing much success as a coach prior to his days as a Dragon when he coached at Johnson High School.
Thurmond’s induction banquet will be held on September 20 at the Northeast Atlanta Hilton in Norcross.

I plated football with Doug in the 70,s and 80,s at Jefferson. When my son began wrestling USA at Madison County, I introduced him to Doug at a meet.Over the course of his high-school career, whenever Doug saw him he would offer words of encouragement or just simply pass time in conversation.Doud and a couple of other coaches inspired my son to attain a degree and become a coach himself. He is a junior wrestler at Cumberland University. It speaks well of Doud that not only is he a leader of "Dragon Men",he also influences people that probably even he doesn't realize.Their is no better representative for Jefferson.
