Lady Eagles finish second at Stephens Co.

That put them into the title game against the Lady Trojans of Johnson County. The Lady Eagles came within one out of bringing home the tournament trophy, but a late surge by Johnson County gave them the 5-4 victory in extra innings.

All in all, coach Jason Rainey said things went really well for his team.

“We had a lot of question marks going up there,” he said. “We’ve got some players back, but we only have about three people that are returning that are playing the same positions, including our pitchers. I was very pleased. All the girls played well considering most were in new spots.”

The Lady Eagles relied on the pitching arms of junior Haley Thompson, freshman Taylor Nix and sophomore Rebecca Turner on the mound over the weekend.

“We mixed it up a lot,” Rainey said. “It was a lot different from what we usually do. We normally have somebody that carries the load, but it might be all three of them this year.”
