Braselton’s Shane Sawyer picked up his first GAS series win at Lanier National Speedway Saturday after Casey Roderick failed post-race tech.

Sawyer inherits GAS win at Lanier National

For a while, it looked like Casey Roderick had picked up his second GAS series win Saturday night at Lanier National Speedway.

But after failing post-race tech, Braselton’s Shane Sawyer inherited the win, his first GAS victory of 2009.

“I really hate it for Casey,” said Sawyer. “We have lost some that way as well. This isn’t the way that I wanted to win tonight’s race, but a win is a win.”

Chris Whorton started the 100-lap event on the pole, with Roderick on the outside, while Sawyer started seventh.

Roderick took control of the event early, and held onto the top spot through five caution flags during the event. The most spectacular of those five occurred on lap 21, when T.J. Reaid lost control of his car off of turn two.

Several cars, including Thomas Praytor, Keith Barrett and Cabe Dillard collided with each other after avoiding Reaid’s machine. All escaped injury, but Barrett’s evening was over.

When the checkered flag waved, it was Roderick who lead all 100 laps, Sawyer second, Elliott third, with Whorton and Reaid rounding out the top five.
