Lady Leopards hosting fall basketball league

While the current flavor of the month is football, Lady Leopards basketball coach Jerry King is already preparing the next generation of upcoming basketball stars now.

The Banks County Lady Leopards’ basketball program is setting an instructional fall league for girls in fifth through seventh grades.
According to King, the league is designed to work on the fundamentals of the game as well as to instruct the man-to-man defense. Additional lessons will be taught on the underlying “read and react” offense style.

With four practice sessions, five games and three combination practice and games scheduled, King is looking for 28-32 players to make the league.

With the first practice starting on Aug. 25 at 6 p.m. at the high school, King and the rest of the Lady Leopard coaching staff is encouraging players in grade school who have an interest to join. Other practices will be held on Aug. 29, Aug. 31, and Sept. 3.

The games will be played in September and October. All of the girls in the league will be recognized during the Dec. 11, Lady Leopards game against Commerce.

The cost is $50 for current Banks County students and $70 for out-of-county students. Each player will be responsible for providing proof of medical insurance.

The deadline to sign up is Aug. 20, and forms are available at the high school front office or can be downloaded below.
