JHS Volleyball starts ’09 season next week

The Jefferson Lady Dragons volleyball team is set to get their 2009 season underway next week, as they’ll open their season with a trip to Athens Academy on Monday.

Leading up to that first game, the varsity team has a scrimmage slated for Thursday against Jackson County at home, and a play date scheduled for Saturday at East Jackson.

The varsity team has several key players they will be calling on as they move into the season, including senior Stephanie Fincher, junior Karla Carreno, sophomore Mandy Daniel, sophomore Cassie Metcalf and sophomore Taylor Cramsey.

“While we are still very young this season with five sophomores we are much more experienced than last year at this time,” said coach Mike Paul. “We return seven varsity lettermen and hope to compete for one of the top spots in our area this season. With a quick exit from the state tournament last year our players seem to have come into the pre-season with a great attitude and work ethic.”
