Dragons continue to prep for 2009

McFerrin said that there have been some changes as their system has been implemented, especially on defense.

“We kept a lot of the offense, but the terminology has changed,” he said. “It’s been a slow process. Finally, I think this week I saw that we’ve made some progress, and I was pleased with practice this past week and the scrimmage we had on Friday. I thought we had a great scrimmage.”

McFerrin said his players have given a great effort.

“They’ve got a great attitude and they’re working hard. It’s just going to take some time to get everything down that we’re trying to do, because it’s different from what they’re used to doing. I couldn’t be happier though with the attitude and the work ethic that the guys have.”

McFerrin said that over the next week, his team will continue to focus on Jefferson football rather than any upcoming opponent.

“We’re trying to get ready for different defenses,” he said. “We’re going to face at least four different defenses. We know over the course of the ten game season, or we think we know what they’re going to play. We’ve been trying to get ready for four different defenses and probably at least four different offenses. We’re trying to get ready for a lot of different things.”

McFerrin said that the main thing they’re trying to do now is get Jefferson ready to play football.

“That means get them in shape, let them learn their assignments, learn to execute, and then we’ll start concentrating on the teams that we’re playing. But right now we’re just trying to get better.”
