No matter how hard it rained Saturday, it wasn’t going to ruin Casey Roderick’s parade.
The Lawrenceville native was out front in the GAS series event at Lanier National Speedway when the skies opened up on lap 88 of the 100-lap Pro Late Model event. When the event was called due to the rain, that gave Roderick his first career GAS series win.
Roderick, piloting the number 19 Bill Elliott Motorsports Ford, started on the outside of the front row, alongside Bill Elliott’s son, Chase, who is also Roderick’s teammate.

Roderick nabs first GAS victory at Lanier National
When the green flag dropped, it was Roderick who got the early advantage, taking the lead by the end of lap one. He would hold that position for the first four laps, until he was passed by Chris Whorton.
Whorton would hold the lead through most of the event, battling with Roderick, Dacula’s Russell Fleeman, T.J. Reaid and Elliott.
The first of two caution flags on the evening flew on lap 80 for debris. Roderick got around Whorton on the restart, and would hold the top spot until the second caution flew on lap 88 due to a spin by Dwayne Buggay.
As the field circled around under caution, the skies opened up, halting the action. The race would be called due to the weather, giving the win to Roderick.
“I want to thank Bill Elliott, my dad, my crew and everyone else that has helped me to get here,” Roderick said in victory lane. “It was a great run for us.”
Whorton finished second, with Elliott, Reaid and Braselton’s Shane Sawyer rounding out the top five.
In other action, Jefferson’s Steve Hill took the win in the Mini-Stock event, his sixth of the season.
