Lady Tigers Eye New Players

Coach Pam Canup’s Lady Tigers are just over a week away from starting another softball season.

Commerce’s varsity Lady Tigers kick into gear with a preseason scrimmage at Hart County Tuesday, Aug 11, at 5:30 p.m. Their first game is the following Tuesday, Aug. 18 at 4:15 p.m. in Homer against the Banks County Lady Leopards. Both the varsity and the junior varsity girls will start the season at Banks County.

Last season the Lady Tigers picked up 10 wins and dropped 14 games while making it into the second consolation round of the state playoffs.

Canup said that the Lady Tigers have spent the summer “working on the little things.”

“We started practicing in July and were gone several nights and worked a lot on hitting and base running,” said Canup. “At tryouts we tried to look at the little things and find out who was willing to play where.”

Commerce held tryouts last week for the middle and high school teams. Approximately 50 girls came out.
