JCCHS season slated to open August 28 in Fairburn

With school starting back for Jackson County Comprehensive High School students this week, classes aren’t the only thing back in session.

Saturday marked the first official day of football practice for the Jackson County Panthers. Team members hit the practice field this week looking to improve on last year’s 1-8-1 season, and looking to record their first region win since September of 2006.

The Panthers will look to repeat their opening season performance from last year when their season opens on August 28. Last year, Jackson County defeated Our Lady of Mercy 16-10 to start their year off.

They will again face the Bobcats to open the season, traveling to Fairburn for the matchup.

From there, the schedule looks much as it did last year. On Sept. 4, the Panthers will play their home opener against the Sonoraville Phoenix, a team that squeaked out a 16-14 win against them last year.

They will again play host on Sept. 18, this time to Prince Avenue Christian, a team Jackson County tied with 12-12 in their meeting last year.

A Sept. 25 road game marks the first region game for the Panthers, as they travel to Morgan County to face the Bulldogs in Madison. The Panthers then return home to face Hart County on Oct. 2 before traveling to Franklin County on Oct. 9.
