Last week’s Dizzy Dean 11-year-old World Series title game, held at East Hall Park in Nicholson, was a blow-out of a victory for the team from Jeffersontown, Kentucky, as they recorded a 16-6 victory in four innings to become the World Series champs over the North Point Nationals from Alabama.
Jeffersontown struck early, scoring seven runs in the top of the first inning, while they held the Nationals scoreless in the bottom of the first, despite the Alabama team threatening with runners on the corners.
A solo home run added another run for Jeffersontown in the top of the second, but the Nationals began working their way back into the game in the bottom of the inning by scoring four runs.

Kentucky team takes World Series title
Jeffersontown added four runs to their lead in the third, and four more in the top of the fourth while holding North Point scoreless to carry a 16-4 lead into the bottom of the fourth.
The Nationals would add two more runs to their tally in the bottom of the fourth, but would get no closer, as Jeffersontown won 16-6 on the ten-run rule.
Meanwhile, in the single elimination bracket, the Jackson County Bullets would fall on Tuesday to the Rohobeth Rays to end their tournament. The Rays would go on to face the team from Jackson County, Alabama. The Alabama team came out on top of the final game to win in the consolation round.
Locally, the Jackson County Force placed fourth in the event, while the Bullets placed seventh. The Jefferson Dragons found themselves out of the tournament after a Monday loss to Acworth.
“I was proud of our local teams,” said Jackson County Parks and Recreation director Rick Sanders. “They represented us well... I think they showed us they can play baseball with anyone.”
Sanders said he thought overall, the event went “great.”
“Everybody had a great time. It was a great event. I’ve gotten nothing but compliments as far as the friendliness of the people in the community, the way the community welcomed them, the organization, from top to bottom it was just first rate, as far as I’ve been told. I’ve not had a person tell me anything bad at all.”
Sanders said he was also pleased with the level of competition the 35 teams brought to the event.
“It was really good baseball,” he said. “I thought from a team of 35 teams, they were outstanding from top to bottom. I think they brought a lot to the table. The competition level was really high, and I was really pleased with that. A lot of good baseball was played. It was fun to watch.”
