Jefferson 13U All- Stars win state title

Coach Keith Lord’s young Dragons opened the Tournament with a 15 to 2 thrashing of Hiram and then followed that up 4 hours later with a trouncing of Carroll County 14 to 1. Round 3 action saw Powder Springs go down 10 to 2.

The only close game of the Tournament for Jefferson was Monday night’s dramatic come from behind win over Cartersville. The Purple Hurricanes jumped out to an early 5 to 1 lead and held it for most of the game until the Dragons exploded for 8 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Championship Game was never in doubt as the Dragons took control early with 10 runs after 2 innings.

Chandler Thompson picked up two of the five wins for Jefferson while Robert Hayes, Jace McColskey and Keenan Lord also recorded victories. The same group plus Satchel Turpin recorded all of the saves too as the Dragons went five deep into their pitching rotation.

Tyler Cole lead the Jefferson hitters during the tournament with a blistering .733 batting average. Cole Edwards and the rest of pitching staff all batted above .500 while Patrick Martin, Andy Nicolaus and
Austin Mixon all batted above .400.

The Dragons will now travel to the Dizzy Dean World Series in Southhaven, Mississippi on July 24. They will have to overcome last years World Series Champs from Northport, Alabama and dozens of other teams from all over the country. It will be a tall task but Coach Keith Lord thinks his team has a chance to come out on top.
