Park and rec baseball tourneys continue

Several Jackson County park and rec baseball teams traveled around the area last weekend to take part in several Dizzy Dean district tournaments.

The Jackson County Diamondbacks came out on top of the 7-year-old division tournament over the weekend. The Diamondbacks started by defeating Dawson County, and then moved on to defeat another Jackson County team.

It was yet another Jackson County Park and Rec team that stood between the Diamondbacks and victory, but in the end, the Diamondbacks came away with the top spot on the weekend.

In the 10-year-old division, Jackson County opened with a loss to Jefferson on Friday. They moved on to defeat Barrow County in the losers’ bracket on Saturday, then to face Commerce on Monday.

Results from Monday were unavailable at press time.

In the 11-year-old division, after defeating Hall County on Friday, the Jackson County Bullets faced off against the Jackson County Force on Saturday.

The Force picked up the win moving on to face Union County. The Bullets moved to the losers’ bracket, where they were slated to face Jefferson.

In the 12-year-old division, Jackson County lost to Barrow County in Friday’s opener, then moved on to face Towns County in the loser’s bracket.

Towns came away with the win, eliminating Jackson County from the tournament.
