Bernstein posts win in college offseason

The winning continues for Drake Bernstein.

The former Winder-Barrow High School and current University of Georgia tennis standout recently entered an adult tournament in Collins Hill and cruised to the championship only losing one set while winning three matches.

Bernstein beat Evgeny Silitsky in the quarterfinals 6-2, 6-1 before defeating Tyler Droll 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 in the semifinals.

In the finals, the Winder native defeated No. 2 seed Davis Dawson 6-0, 6-4.

The tournament followed the University of Georgia’s bid in the NCAA national tournament.

Bernstein recently finished his sophomore season for the University of Georgia tennis team. During his high school career, he compiled an 82-1 record including 79 consecutive wins. He was the 2007 Boys Tennis Player of the Year for Northeast Georgia and was a three-time All-Northeast Georgia selection He helped lead WBHS to its first-ever state tournaments in 2006 and 2007.

During his freshman season at UGA, Bernstein compiled an 18-6 record and was 6-1 in dual matches.

He is the son of Jeff and Susan Bernstein.
