Mat Tigers Focus On Weakness

“I try to get these guys several practices every summer along with as many live matches as possible,” said Love. “In essence, many of these guys get as many matches in a given summer as some schools get during the regular season.”

While many wrestlers will be in football pads before returning to the mats, the time spent during the summer helps the athletes to remain in shape both physically and mentally, Love said.

“We talk a lot about working on our weaknesses and improving each and every summer,” Love said. “That way, when the season starts, damage control is over with and we can work on the things we do well.”

Also last week, the Commerce grapplers traveled to Wesleyan to wrestle five teams from mostly quad-A and AAAAA schools. Commerce wrestled against Locust Grove, Parkview, Marist, Wesleyan and Peachtree Ridge.

“I was proud of the way our guys competed against tough competition from mostly AAAA and AAAAA schools. I felt like we battled in every dual and I saw a lot of good things,” Love said. “I also saw some things that we need to work on, and we will address that this week.”

The Tigers will head to Clarke Central on Thursday to compete against several teams.
“I have seen many wrestlers have a successful summer and carry that over into the season in November,” Love said.
