Commerce’s gridiron Tigers tackled spring football practice this week and last, as the team worked on drills and started conditioning for the hard Friday nights coming up in just under 15 weeks.
Commerce is coming off a 5-5 regular season that saw four region wins and the Tigers finishing as third in 8-A. Commerce was eliminated in the opening round of the Class A playoffs by Wilkinson County, 21-7.
The Tigers will wrap up practice this week and then await the return to the field in August in preparation for the highly anticipated season opener against Jefferson.
With footwork and speed being key elements in football, Commerce addressed both in spring practice.

CHS Finishes Up Spring Training
While the spring only offers little indication as to what the coming season could hold, coach Steve Savage has plenty of options.
“We have several receivers… who have caught the ball well,” Savage said, mentioning Carl Allen, Channing Anderson, Anthony Norris, Deon Orsborn and Jon Cash.
“We also got a good look at our secondary, all making great progress,” said Savage.
Savage added that linebackers Taylor Adams, Josh Swisstak and Josh Streetman have all improved and that the QB/FB combination of Cody Streetman and Travaris Glasper “hooked up well” during spring practice.
The GHSA football season begins Friday, Aug. 28. Teams may begin fall practice on Aug. 1.
