Second-year Winder-Barrow High School football coach Ben Corley is dealing with a welcome problem this spring.
The Bulldogg mentor is trying to find enough equipment to give to all the interested players who are wanting to be a part of the program.
“We are on the verge of being overwhelmed with the numbers,” Corley said Monday. “However, that is a good thing. Right now we are busting at the seams.”
A total of 57 freshmen took part in their portion of spring practice, which concluded Tuesday. Corley and his coaching staff are now working with 93 upper classmen, who began on-the-field practice last Thursday.
Spring practice will continue through May 22 when a spring game will be held, the coach said.
“The kids have put in a lot of time in the weight room and on the track to get bigger, faster and strong,” Corley said. “We want to see the fruits of that labor. So far we have seen some progress.”
Excitement is building for the program, which will look to make strides in Region 8-AAAA in 2009.
“Our intensity and energy are up,” Corley said. “We have been very pleased by it.”
“With the numbers we have out, it will help us build not just depth but quality depth,” Corley said.
