David stared Goliath in the face last week but this time the giant held on for the victory.
The Apalachee High School boys soccer team came close to recording a second-round upset in the state playoffs against highly favored McIntosh but fell just short in a 3-2 contest.

Soccer Cats just miss recording upset
The loss ended the Wildcats season at 12-6-1 overall. AHS will look to rebuild for next spring as nine seniors will graduate from coach Chad Hooper’s squad.
The host Chiefs led 1-0 at halftime but AHS showed it had arrived to compete in the second half on an unassisted goal from Adam Porter.
McIntosh regained the lead on a dispute call as the AHS coaches felt the referees should have called a foul against the Chiefs. Perhaps being the No. 1-ranked team in the state helped the home team as the call was not made and McIntosh was granted the 2-1 lead.
Porter added his second goal of the match to tie the score again on an assist from Clayton Barbour.
Another disputed call which went in the home team’s favor led to the winning goal. Apalachee’s Javier Crawford was red carded, which meant an automatic disqualification. The Chiefs would score on a corner kick with approximately 10 minutes left for the game-winner which would eventually end the season for the Wildcats.
