Road Atlanta will play host to the Formula DRIFT series this weekend, beginning Friday at 10 a.m.

Formula DRIFT, recognized as the North American professional drifting championship series, will be racing into Road Atlanta this weekend.

Drifting is the fastest growing motorsport in the world. Competition pits two cars in an intense head-to-head battle where the cars slide sideways at high speeds and car control is everything.

Drifting has been featured in numerous video games and in movies.

Road Atlanta was the site of Formula DRIFT’s first event back in 2004. For this weekend’s event, the best drifters in the world will be on hand including returning Formula DRIFT champion Tanner Foust, who is also an x-games Rally gold medalist, a TV show host, and movie stunt driver, in his brand new Scion powered with a NASCAR V8, drifting world champion Rhys Millen piloting a brand new Hyundai Genesis Coupe, and Vaughn Gittin, Jr. piloting a brand new Falken Tires Ford Racing Mustang GT.

Action gets underway at Road Atlanta at 10 a.m. Friday, and continues at 10 a.m. Saturday.
