The Jackson County Panthers wrapped up their baseball season on Thursday on a high note, recording a win against Meadowcreek.
The win means the Panthers end their 2009 campaign with an 8-15 overall record, and 3-11 in the region.
It’s the highest win total for Jackson County in five years.
Hart County
The Panthers started their last week of play off with a game against the Bulldogs of Hart County.
Jackson County was still stinging a bit from the 13-3 loss they had experienced at the hands of the Bulldogs back on April 11. Their hope was to get a win and prevent Hart County from making the playoffs.
Despite playing well, Jackson County couldn’t put together a clutch hit with runners in scoring position.
The Panthers were able to cut Hart County’s lead by one, 2-1, in the bottom of the third thanks to back-to-back doubles from Rob Williams and Zach Sticher. But the Panthers left nine runners stranded, including leaving the bases loaded in the first and seventh innings. In the end, it was Hart County coming away with a 5-1 victory.
Jon Florentine recorded the loss, leaving him 2-4 on the year. He gave up one earned run on four hits. Quinn Grogan gave up one run and one hit in 2 2/3 innings of relief.
Meadowcreek
The Panthers were determined to end their season on a positive note, as they closed out the year Thursday night with senior night at home.
Jackson County moved out to a 13-3 lead, and had a chance to end the game in five innings, but a six run fifth inning for the Mustangs kept things going.
But the Panthers were not to be denied, and in the end, they came away with a 14-9 victory.
Austin Robinson picked up the win, working three innings and giving up only two hits.
Ken Miller recorded the first home run of his career, and then worked two scoreless innings to help the Panthers pick up the win.
Robinson went 2-3 at the plate with an RBI. Rob Williams went 3-4 with 2 RBIs. Quinn Grogen went 2-3 with two RBIs. John Florentine went 2-3.
