Jamal Cooper won the region 200 meters Friday in a banner 8-AAAA meet for the Madison County junior.
Cooper ran a 22.02 in the finals, winning the event by .17 of a second.
Cooper, who also placed second in the long jump (20’9”), totaled 18 points for a Madison County team that finished fourth overall with 83 points, the highest showing at region in the program’s history.
Raider track team members also qualified for the state meet in two other events.
Jazmond Taylor ran a 2:02 in to finish second in the 800 meters, and the 4 x 100 team clocked a 42.14 to take second in that event.
Other top performances from the Raiders included third-place showings from the 4 x 400 team (3:24) and Kendrick Butler in both the long jump (20’7”) and 300-meter hurdles (40.63 seconds). Taylor also finished third in the 1,600-meters (4:55).
Madison County added points in several other areas:
•Butler, sixth, triple jump (41’7”).
•Jeffrey Hicks, fifth, pole vault (11’6”).
•Derrell Dukes, eighth, pole vault (10’6”).
•Matt Dove, discus, seventh (131’1”).
•Cedric Bush, seventh, 400-meter dash (54.12 seconds).
•Al Allen, seventh, 100-meter dash (11.41).
•Donavan Carey, sixth, 110-meter hurdles (17.10 seconds).
•McGuire, eighth, 110-meter hurdles (17.6 seconds); and fourth, 300-meter hurdles (42.10 seconds).
Madison County’s second-tier 4 x 400 team added points with a seventh-place finish in that event (3:40).
The Raiders finished behind Heritage (98), Clarke Central (89) and Cedar Shoals (88).
The MCHS girls started their region meet Wednesday (results weren’t available at press time).
