Track Tigers Qualify Five For State

Commerce’s track Tigers have qualified five athletes to compete in the state track meet May 7-9 in Jefferson.

They are Damian Wood, Deon Orsborne, Jon Cash, Javon Womack and Torrance Wilcher.

Commerce will compete in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, the 110-meter hurdles, the 4x100-meter relay and the 4x400-meter relay.

During the region meet, Commerce finished fourth out of six schools with 70 points.

Athens Christian took first with 200 points followed by Athens Academy (92) and Prince Avenue (82). Other competitors included Social Circle (35) and Tallulah Falls (16).

Earning points for Commerce were Jovan Womack (region runner up, 100-meter dash, second, 200-meter dash), Deon Osborne (region champion, 110-meter hurdles), Caleb Lang (fifth, discus), Wilcher (third, triple jump, third, long jump, fifth, 400-meter dash) and Wood (third, 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash).
