With the boys’ region meet looming on the horizon this week and the girls’ region set for the following week, the East Jackson Eagles track and field teams continue to prepare for what they hope will be a good showing.
East Jackson’s boys took top honors over Jackson County and Franklin County in a meet at Jackson County on Thursday. The Eagles scored 67 points to Jackson County’s 55 and Franklin’s 39.
The girls, meanwhile, found themselves trailing at the Jackson County meet, scoring 44 points to winner Franklin’s 55 and Jackson County’s 50.
Individual results were unavailable at press time.
East Jackson next moved on to Oglethorpe County to take part in the Gary Matthews Invitational, which had been postponed from March 28 due to rain.
The boys finished second with 119 points, just one point behind winner Oglethorpe County. Third place Commerce trailed with 72 points.
For the boys, Brandon Banks won in the 1600-meters, placed second in the 3200-meters and sixth in the high jump. Zach Gilbert took first in the triple jump, Zach Cornell won in the shot put, and the 4x400 team also took top honors.
Others who placed include Tyler Collins (fifth, 100-meters, fourth, 200-meters, third, high jump), C.J. Allen (sixth, 100-meters), Robert Mahone (seventh, 200-meters, fourth, long jump), Wade Mize (second, 400-meters), Kevin Kesler (second, 800-meters, fourth, 3200-meters), Terri Cox (sixth, 800-meters), Dylan Kemp (fourth, 110-meter hurdles, fourth, 300-meter hurdles), Ronnie Slizowski (sixth, pole vault), Deon Sewell (fourth, triple jump) and Nick Fulks, fifth, discus). East Jackson also placed second in the 4x100.
Team scores were unavailable for the girls’ events.
For East Jackson, Sherri Blalock won the 1600-meters.
Others who placed include: Courtney Clark (fifth, 400-meters), Jena Blackmon (second, 800-meters), Dakota Chandler (sixth, 800-meters), Kassie Mull (third, 1600-meters), Amanda Anderson (second, 3200-meters), Linzie Akin, (fifth, 100-meter hurdles), Amanda Murphy (fifth, 300-meter hurdles, fifth, long jump) and Jessie Harper (second, high jump).
The 4x100 team placed fifth, and the 4x400 team placed fourth.
