The Jefferson girls’ golf team came away from Monday’s region tournament as the 8-AA champs.
The Lady Dragons shot a 182 to win their fifth region title at Chattahoochee Golf Course in Gainesville.
Jennifer Brueshaber led the way for Jefferson by shooting an 86 while Hannah Chapman shot a 95.
The state tournament is scheduled for May 4 in Vidalia.
The boys’ team, meanwhile, came away with a sixth place finish in the region tournament by shooting a 356. North Oconee took the region title.
Freshman Patrick Hilton shot an 84 to lead the Dragons. He was followed by Michael Baker with an 86, Cody Smith with a 90, and Cutler Finch and Nick Stowe, who both shot a 96.
Jefferson led up to Monday’s tournament in strong form, picking up wins against East Jackson, Riverside and Banks County.
East Jackson
Jefferson started out their week by solidly beating East Jackson at Traditions 182-151.
Michael Baker led the Dragons with a 43 and was also the match low medalist. He was followed by Patrick Hilton who shot a 44, Cody Smith with a 47, and Cutler Finch with a 48.
The Lady Dragons were also successful, as they defeated East Jackson 92-126.
Jennifer Brueshaber was low medalist, leading Jefferson with a 45 while Hanna Chapman shot a 47. Brueshaber was also the match low medalist.
Lane Creek
The Jefferson boys next traveled to Lane Creek in Bishop on Wednesday to face Prince Avenue and Riverside Military Academy.
The Dragons finished with their best score for the season, as they tied Riverside for first with a 166 and while Prince Avenue finished third with a 180.
Michael Baker and Patrick Hilton led Jefferson with a pair of 40s. They were followed by Austin Rowland with a 41 and Nick Stowe with a 45.
