The Jackson County golf teams have wrapped up their regular seasons, and are set to begin region tournament play this week.
The Panthers started off last week with a second place result against Stephens County and Banks County as they moved closer to this week’s region tournament.
Stephens took the win with a 182, while Jackson County scored 205 and Banks a 209.
Rodney Price and Ben Waldrip both led the Panthers by shooting a 47. Jared Scott shot a 55, while Russell Jenkins shot a 56, Alex Brandao shot a 59 and Justin Lenz shot a 60.
The Panthers took top honors in their next match, held at Traditions against East Hall, as Jackson County shot 189 to the Vikings’ 229.
Waldrip led Jackson County by shooting a 44. Jenkins shot a 46. Price shot a 49. Scott shot a 50. Lenz shot a 60. Brandao shot a 62.
The win means the Panthers wrap up their regular season with an 8 - 12 record.
“I would like to thank Traditions for their continued support for JCCHS and high school golf,” said coach Warren Standridge. “Jeff Kaneko has been great to us with lessons and advice. Matthew Mead has gone out of his way to help with scheduling and matches. Tyler Thurmond, Herb and the rest of the staff were always helpful.”
Meanwhile, the Lady Panthers faced Banks and Stephens Counties on Wednesday, tying Banks for first with 123 while Stephens finished third with 124.
Freshman Beth Bates was the top lady golfer for the overall tournament, with freshman Abby Davidson having the second highest score for the Lady Panthers and the fifth overall.
