It was not a win week to remember for the Panthers of Jackson County, who now find themselves mired in a four game losing streak.
Jackson County will look to get back into the win column today (Wednesday), as the Panthers play host to the Morgan County Bulldogs, who enter the game with a 3-7 region record.
In their last meeting back on April 3, Morgan County came away with a 12-1 win.
First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
Elbert County
Last Wednesday, the Panthers played host to Elbert County in a game postponed from April 14 due to rain.
The extra day didn’t work in the Panthers’ favor, as they got off to a slow start, giving up eight runs in the first two innings. Jackson County recovered to play well after that, but the team could never recover the ground they lost, and fell 12-3.
Rob Williams took the loss from the mound, while Trey Sorrells went 2-4 at the plate with a double.
Stephens County
On Thursday, the Panthers traveled to Stephens County to face the region leading Indians, who are undefeated in 8-AAA.
Jackson County got off to a strong start, putting two runners across to jump out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, then adding two more to lead 4-2 by the bottom of the third.
But Stephens County went on a tear, scoring three runs on a home run to make it 5-4. The Indians added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Jackson County wasn’t ready to give up, and cut the lead to 9-5. Stephens stretched the lead out again by getting a run across, while the Panthers would again cut the lead, 10-6, in the top of the sixth.
But runners left stranded in four different innings, including the seventh, came back to haunt the Panthers, who would fall to Stephens County 11-6.
Larry Evans took the loss from the mound.
Zach Sticher and Rob Williams led at the plate, including a triple from Sticher.
