The Jefferson Dragons ended their season in high style this week by winning four games and becoming the subregion champions.
Jefferson will host round one of the region 8-AA tournament on Friday with a double header. Should the two teams split the games, a deciding game will be played on Saturday.
Jefferson’s round one opponent had not been decided at press time.
North Oconee
The Dragons entered into play Wednesday afternoon on the road against North Oconee tied with the Titans for first place in the region.
Jefferson struck first blood by getting a runner across in the top of the first. The Titans would strike back by scoring in the bottom of the second to tie the game.
Both teams were held scoreless until the top of the fifth, when the Dragons broke out to score ten runs, blowing the game wide open. Jefferson would go on to win 11-1.
Chris Beck recorded the win from the mound, striking out 11 of 18 batters while giving up just one hit and one run.
Jason Demos went 2-3 with two RBIs. Jake Fields went 2-2 with 2 RBIs. Beck went 1-3 with one RBI. Corey Wilkins went 1-2 with two RBIs.
Oglethorpe Co.
Jefferson next hosted Oglethorpe County on Thursday in a game rescheduled due to rain.
The Dragons got to work early, putting two runners across in the bottom of the first to take an early lead. The Patriots got on the board by scoring in the top of the second, but Jefferson went on a tear, adding three runs in the second and six in the third, while Oglethorpe could only muster one in the third. They added two more in the top of the fifth, but it was too little, too late, as Jefferson won 14-4 in five innings.
Jamie Sexton recorded the win, pitching for just over four innings. He struck out six batters, gave up three hits and two runs.
Jamie Sexton went 2-1 with one RBI. Jason Demos went 2-3 with three RBIs. Jake Fields went 4-4 with two RBIs. Chris Beck went 1-2 with one RBI. Kyle Hardy went 2-2 with two RBIs. Lucas Redd went 1-2 with four RBIs. Caleb Meek went 2-2.
With the win, the Dragons locked up the subregion championship.
Banks County
Jefferson played their last home game of the season on Friday, as they hosted the Banks County Leopards.
To call it a quick game would be an understatement. The Dragons put eight runners across in the bottom of the first, then added 11 more in the bottom of the second to defeat Banks County 19-0 in three innings.
