Track Tigers Hit Rough Patch At Jefferson Relays

Commerce track Tigers had a rough outing Saturday at the Jefferson Relays.

Finishing seventh and eighth overall the Lady Tigers and Tigers nonetheless had a number of placers at the meet.

The track team was scheduled to compete at North Oconee Tuesday, but at press time information from the meet was unavailable.

Coming up for Commerce is a tri-meet at Habersham County and Tallulah Falls Monday at 4:00 p.m.


Jefferson Relays

The Lady Tigers finished with 34 points Saturday in Jefferson. Placers for the team included: Sa’quavia Varnum (third, shot put and 100-meter dash), Shekia Moon (eighth, 100-meter hurdles; sixth, 300-meter hurdles), Joely Howell (eighth, discus), and Drea Mathis (eighth) 100-meter dash.

The Lady Tigers’ 4x100m relay team placed second, the 1600 sprint medley team placed eighth, the 4x200m team took fifth and the 4x400m team finished seventh.

The boys accumulated 30 points.

Torrance Wilcher placed seventh in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump. Deon Osborne was sixth in the high jump, Caleb Lang placed seventh in the discus, and in the 100-meter dash, Javon Womack placed second while Damian Wood finished fifth.

The Tigers’ 4x100m team placed fifth while the 1600 sprint medley team took eighth and the 4x400m team finished seventh.
