Raider sharpshooters finish ninth

The Madison County High School rifle team managed a top-10 finish, placing ninth at the state championships at Ft. Benning.


Adapting to the challenge of shooting at electronic targets (the team shoots at paper targets during the regular season), the Raiders fired 1,121, finishing 35 points behind state champion Union Grove.

Madison County’s 2001 championship team still holds the state record with a 1,160.
Wade Threlkeld led Madison County with a 284, followed by Nathan Coker (283), J.S. Fielding (279) and Casey Brown (275).

Rifle team members who made the trip to state were Dalton Crumley, Ryan Bridges, Jacob Holliman, Garrett Cook, Threlkeld, J.S. Fielding, Hanna Moon, Tiffany Brown, Coker and Brown.

Jeff Brantley and Doug Butts coached the team.
