The 2009 AMA Pro Racing tour roars into Road Atlanta this weekend for the Suzuki Superbike Showdown April 3-5.
The co-headlining attractions of the weekend will be a pair of doubleheader races for the AMA Pro National Guard American Superbike presented by Parts Unlimited series and the Daytona SportBike presented by AMSOIL series.
Each class will feature 20-lap races on both Saturday, April 4 and Sunday, April 5.
In the American Superbike category, six-time series champion Mat Mladin continues to lead the way. Mladin is undefeated thus far in 2009, taking American Superbike victories in the season-opener at Daytona earlier this month and both races of a doubleheader at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif. last weekend.
The Australian motorcycle racing legend has also started every race this season from the pole position and is the all-time leader in American Superbike victories, with 75, and poles with 58. Mladin leads the class point standings by 22 points, 94-72, over his teammate Tommy Hayden and heads to Road Atlanta looking to keep his perfect record intact. Twelve of his 75 American Superbike victories have come at the Braselton road course.
Other American Superbike stars slated to appear at Road Atlanta include Georgia natives and teammates Aaron Yates and Geoff May on Suzukis owned by NBA legend Michael Jordan, former champion Miguel Duhamel, former World Superbike champion Neil Hodgson, and Josh Hayes, who has won at Road Atlanta previously in the SuperSport and Formula Xtreme classes.
Race #1 of the American Superbike starts at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, with the second half of the doubleheader closing out the Suzuki Superbike Showdown at 4 p.m. on Sunday. Both races will be 20 laps (50 miles).
